Planning : Initial ideas for my ancillary tasks
My Poster ideas:
For my posters I had the idea of having the band portrayed in the 'cops and robbers' costume, to create something that has continuity with the music video. The first idea was having them chased by the police officer, in a stand still, almost comidic pose to fit in with the rest of my idea. This will give the consumer a direct insight into the music video as there are direct links from the song to the poster. Also the image is quite eyecatching, so it will attract different people to hopefully act as an effective bit of advertisement. I thought it could be quite fun to have the band name in bubble writing, as it makes the whole poster seem more light hearted. I also thought by having it in larger typography would make the idenity of the band very obvious, adding clarity for the consumer. By putting the song title at the bottom it frames the image, again re-inforcing the purpose if the poster, which is to sell the music.
My second idea is having the band members climbing up a wall, like tney are escaping. These seems quite fun and quirky, and still links to the video. It shows more of the character of the band and gives them more of an identity for the consumer to invest in. I changed the typography in this idea as I thought just bold, slender writing could seem more proffessional; yet still fit in with the music video as it represents the sophistication of the silent film style. I put both the band name and the song name at the top as then all the emphasis is the in the same place, and it makes what the poster is advertising very clear to the consumer so they may be more inclined to purchase the product.
Digipak Ideas:
My first idea for this was to use one of the photos from my poster on the front cover of the digipak. This would give the consumer a clear link between all 3 products and give the band an image and identity people could buy into. The typography would then be the same within the digipak to continue this theme. Then on the back I would include the other image, but it wouldn't be in bold so that I could put song names over it.This could make it seem more appealing to a consumer as they can see exactly what songs are on the album so they can decide if they want to invest in it or not. Then on the inside covers, i am planning on including mugshots of each of the band members as then they can have an identity within the digipak, but it also still keeps up with the idea of them being 'robbers'. I wanted to put the bands name on the Cd as well to again re-inforce their brand so even if you loose the case you know which cd it is.
My second idea was to include the mugshots of the band on the front cover so their identity is bold on the front of the Digipak. I plan for the mugshots to be kind of quirky so they portray more of the bands actual personality and are more eye-catching to draw a consumer in. This also links to the idea of the band and their persona of 'robbers' in the music video, again adding to the continuity. This time I decided to keep the back cover the same with the song titles as I think that is crucial to a Cd cover at it contains information a consumer needs to know when considering to purchase the product, but on the inside cover I would put song lyrics instead of an image as from my research I realised people enjoy to have somewhere where they can reference the content of a song. I still kept the idea of the band name on the Cd as I think this is a nice touch that ties the entire digipak together.
