Planning - Props ( Post 30 )

Props

This aspect of my music video is strongly linked to the costume aspect of my video, as most of the props I am planning on using link to the set costumes for my characters. This also makes props a crucial part of my music video as it will add to the effect of the costumes; as good props will be an extension of these costumes and thus the characters, giving the audience a clearer image when watching my music video. Also, due to the fact that I am trying to use costumes inspired a different time period to modern day, by adding props this will make that difference clearer by adding more definition and the little details will make the over all finish of my video more professional. The props I want to use are going to  used quite a lot in my video as well, again making them a pronounced element of my mis-en-scene.

Props I am going to need:

Police Baton - This will be held by the police officer who is chasing the 'robbers', and he will be waving it up above his head in the stereotypical fashion, like he is angry. This will add definition to his role in the video to the audience, the angry authority, the baton being a clear indication of this character.  It will also add to the comedic value of the video as he can use it in an over the top fashion, which evokes humour in response to the robbers averting him every time.

Bag of money - This will be used by the robbers in the video, and like the police baton is adds clarity to their sense of character. Also it will show the purpose of the chase thus making the purpose of the video clearer to the audience ,which will make the whole video more effective.

Instruments- Due to the performance element of my video, I will need there to be the basic instruments you would expect to see from a band e.g guitars, drums, microphones. This will make the video seem more professional as the band will be playing their own instruments, and will make the overall effect more realistic. It will also add some contrast to the rest of the props used as the instruments are far more contemporary, so the video will feel more diverse. It will also give the members of the band more of an identity as the audience can see where their role is dependant on what instrument they are playing.

How I plan to get these props:

Police Baton: This is included in the policeman costume I am purchasing, which is linked in my costume post.
Sack of money: I am planning on making this out of an old straw bag and just painting the dollar sign on with black paint. This the easiest and most cost efficient way of acquiring this prop.
Instruments: The band I am using in my music video have all their own equipment which they will be using in the video; so I do not have to source my own for them.
