Planning - Costume and Make up ( Post 29 )

Costume I would like to concentrate on costume as one of the main aspects of my mis-en-scene as I think it could make the video much more entertaining to watch and also portray the style in a clearer way. Due to the main characters of my video being 'cops and robbers ' I am planning on including the stereotypical costumes of these to make the personas obvious to the audience. Also, due to the fact that I want to include a silent film style film chase within the video, by using these costumes it will create more of a feel of the time period , as they are the classical costumes used throughout time; and will also add a sense of comedy which is usually incorporated within that style. Furthermore it will give the band a more distinguished image if they are all recognised in a symmetrical costume and make them stand out in the video. I am planning on having them perform the music in the same costumes so they have the same image throughout the video and add a sense of cohesion so i

Planning - Casting and characters ( Post 28 )

CASTING AND CHARACTERS In preparation for my coursework I have been planning who will be the cast that make up my band and characters within the music video. I have 5 main characters, 4 band members and a policeman, who will be in the video and it is important I cast these characters effectively to make sure my video is the most authentic and professional it can be. Character profiles: The band will consist of 4 males, around the age of 16-17. They will each have a role within the typical set up of a band, so a guitarist, singer, bass guitarist and a drummer. They are all very mischievous, and have a passion for music. The image of the band is kind of grunge, and they have all been best friends since they were younger and have a very close friendship. The policeman will be a male and only a few years older than the band members. He will have the stereotypical grumpy policeman personality, moody with no sense of humour.  Casting for the band: The casting for the band is

Planning - Setting ( Post 27 )

Setting What do I understand setting to mean? This is what the google definition of setting is: I think that the term setting means the place in which you will be filming, which can include time period, location, time of day and which season. Many people think setting is describing location only, but it is a broader term than that as the setting can be in a completely different time period or country, which also needs to be considered. Setting is the basis for you character as it is the situation in which you will be filming them in, so they character and the setting have to match. What settings do I want to use in my music video: I would like to set part of my music video in the 1920s-30s because I think it could add an interesting dimension to my video and as I want to include a silent film element, and this is the time period typically used for this genre was it was when it was most popular. I also want to challenge myself this year with my coursework and trying to

Planning - Plot outline/script ( Post 26 )

Image
This blogpost will be discussing my ideas about plot/script for my A2 music video. Script When decided what path I wanted to go down with my coursework, I had to decide whether or not to include dialogue within my music video. This is used by some big bands to add more of a plot to the video, and adds something more than just the bands music. For example, Greenday do this in their video for ' Wake me up before September never ends' . However; after some consideration I decided I did not want to include dialogue in my video as I don't think it fits in with my idea, and would disturb the overall feel of the video. Due to the fact I want to include some silent film inspired aspects to my video, adding dialogue would directly oppose this style and may confuse the viewer, so to make it more simple and effective I am choosing to just use the song as the only audio; which hopefully will keep the focus of the music as it was the original inspiration for my music video idea.
