Evaluation Question 3 ( Post 55 )
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Here is my plan :
Here is my audience feedback video:
Above are the screenshots of messages I also collected as feedback.
What have I learnt from my audience feedback?
To gain feedback I wanted to specifically talk to people who were part of my target audience demographic, which was younger people, but I also spoke to few people from an older generation to make sure it was inclusive. I did this by showing people and asking them directly to form a discussion or interview; but I also used social media.
Positive feedback:
After acting on some of the initial feedback from my rough cut I tried to tweak my video to act on this critic, which mainly suggested that exposure needed to be worked on and some of the lip syncing and band elements as well. This seemed to work as in the feedback for my final video there was no criticism on the exposure in the shots and even though some people said that the lip syncing could still do with some more polishing, there was generally a lot less comment on these aspects of my video. People seemed to particularly like the originality of my idea, yet still could tell that the product was a music video designed to advertise the song, and understood the narrative clearly. People also seemed to be impressed by the editing used on this narrative and commented positively about the camera work in all aspects of my music video. Furthermore, people said that the video was fun and enjoyable to watch, which is very flattering feedback as this was one of my main ambition when setting out to create the video. There was also good feedback on the links between the ancillary tasks and the video and people could tell they were all advertising the same thing and thought that the images used were appropriate and helped them make this link, which is important from my perspective as a creator as it means I have achieved the objective on continuity throughout my advertising which is important if I were to actually use this products to promote the band. I was also very pleased to hear that one person even made the link between the policeman and the producer being the same actor, and the subtle message I tried to introduce there about control in the music industry, as this shows that people were interacting with my video on a deeper level than just the fun storyline that was clearer. Over al I found the feedback to be very flattering and positive, and I was very happy to see something I had put so much of my own energy into being received so kindly.
Critic:
However, there was still some feedback on how to improve if I were to complete this again, which I tried to take on board to improve my media skills for any future projects I will be working on. A majority of this critic orientated around the bands performance element, as some people, such as Emma screenshotted above, thought I could have perhaps used different locations to portray this a it could have added another dimension to my coursework and make it look more professional. Moreover, I still got some criticism on the quality of the lip syncing and band performance, as Paula above suggested that at the beginning the quality of this footage didn't quite have the energy at the beginning as it did at the end, so if I was to film again I would gain more footage after a longer period to make the whole video seem on an equal level of energy, and thus improve the overall quality. I also would gain clearer footage of the band singing to the lip syncing would be to a higher standard to again improve the overall professionalism of the video and this was the aspect of my video that I still got the most negative feedback even after the adjustments from the final cut. So perhaps when conducting this task again I would give the band members longer to familiar themselves with the song to decrease this. The only critic I got on any other aspects of my video was from individual 4 in my audience feedback video, as she suggested that perhaps the video ended to abruptly and it needed more of a lead up to the ending, so maybe I would need to rethink my plot and how I portrayed this so the video felt more like it was coming to a ready end, although no one else gave me the same feedback so perhaps this was more down to personal taste than an actual issue with my video as it was not recurring as with the lip syncing.
So, what have I learnt?
Overall, I have learnt that my video was generally effective and that my idea was clear and fun for consumers, and that I maintained continuity through out my coursework which was positive for advertising purposes. I also learnt that perhaps the skill I need to work on the most is capturing the band and their performance more effectively because although people seemed to enjoy this aspect, it was definitely the area that received the most critic and is where in the future I will need to focus my energy to improve, it is at the same standard as my ability to portray a narrative. Conclusively, this feedback was very encouraging as it complimented my editing work which is where I wanted to improve the most when I started this project, and gave me some more constructive feedback so I can continue to stretch and improve my media skills for my future.
