Planning - Sound ( Post 32 )
Sound
Sound is a crucial part of a music video; it is the basis for making the video in the first place and often the music is the inspiration for the footage within the video that accompanies it. Sound can be used in music videos in different ways to just having the song the video was made for; they can include diegetic sound or foley sound if the type of video they want to make lends itself to this. By adding these extra aspects, rather than just the song, it can make the music video more interesting and diverse as it adds a different dimension to the non diegetic sound of the track over the footage. Therefore it is a very important aspect to consider when creating a music video as it is not always just as simple as laying a track over some footage, it all has to fit together and make sense with the genre of music.
For my coursework I am planning on using mainly the track to 'cops and robbers' by the hoosiers
as this was the inspiration for my video and the footage is heavily orientated around the music. However, at the beginning of the music video I am planning to use the diegetic sound of the setting the video starts in, which should be in a city with just the natural city sounds, such as people talking and the wind. I am planning on having this fade into the song so it makes the setting in the video and the song seem more linked and gives the video a more cohesive feel.
Another option for sound I could include in my video is foley sound:
This a very unique and interesting way to record and include sound; and can often be very effective if included in the right way. Here are a couple of videos to explain foley sound in more detail, and show how effective it can be and the different way sound can be manipulated:
I am not planning on including any foley sound within my coursework; because although it can add an interesting dimension to sound; it would not really fit in anywhere within my video and thus would not add anything to my idea personally.
Lip syncing:
Lip syncing is often used in music videos to give the impression that the band is performing within the video; giving the band a sense of identity within the video. Lip syncing is a good way to link the footage and the music together; however it is difficult to do well and can look very unprofessional if it is out of time with the music. I am planning on using lip syncing in my music video as it will be crucial to the performance element, as you cannot have a band without a singer. Below I will put the lyrics of the song an put the places where I am planning on incorporating lip syncing in bold:

If we catch a criminal
When we catch a criminal
There's nothing we can do
But play cops and robbers
Cops and robbers
When we catch a criminal
There's nothing we can do
But play cops and robbers
Cops and robbers
We're at a revolution
And we're baying for your blood
We're laying down the law
And your name's mud
And we're baying for your blood
We're laying down the law
And your name's mud
You'd like to be a member of the human race
You want to be a good boy
But you couldn't stand the taste
You want to be a good boy
But you couldn't stand the taste
Blame Simon
'Cause he said
You've got two lives down
And one life left
Blame Simon
Because he said
You could think better with a hole in your head
You could think better with a hole in your head
'Cause he said
You've got two lives down
And one life left
Blame Simon
Because he said
You could think better with a hole in your head
You could think better with a hole in your head
If we catch a criminal
When we catch a criminal
There's nothing we can do
But play cops and robbers
Cops and robbers
If we catch a criminal
When we catch a criminal
There's nothing we can do

But play cops and robbers
Cops and robbers
If we catch a criminal
When we catch a criminal
There's nothing we can do
But play cops and robbers
Cops and robbers
Catch a revolution
Now your waging war again
Marching on the spot when you should have made amends
Cause you say you fight for us
Cross your heart and hope to die
You're the bully in the playground and we'll hang you out to dry

Marching on the spot when you should have made amends
Cause you say you fight for us
Cross your heart and hope to die
You're the bully in the playground and we'll hang you out to dry
