As part of our planning and practice for our real coursework, we decided to go and record some rehearsal of footage for our coursework. The idea is to get an idea of the kind of shots worked and didn't work. So we went and filmed a few clips of us going on a walk at a local church in Wymondham called the Abbey. The objective of this exercise was to practice how to get the best shots that could be used in the real coursework later on, so we are more prepared and can complete it in a smoother fashion. We also learnt a lot from it as we had some problems with the practical side. When we were filming, we brought two phones to record footage but within the first 10 minutes it died, so we learnt for our actual coursework to make sure all cameras are fully charged before we leave, as although this is simple it is something that can insure our actual filming day goes without any issues. The second phones camera smashed, so we had to record all the footage on the front camera which made getting certain shots far more difficult than it should have been; so before we go to film the final video we will check all the camera beforehand to again avoid such a simple issue. Other than that; filming went smoothly and we managed to get enough footage to make a short practice video that has a similar idea to what the final music video will look like. Overall the task was very beneficial to us as it allowed us to be better prepared for filming our final coursework and get a clearer idea of the kind of shots we would like to get and the best way into which to film them. In post production we decided that we did not have enough footage to make a music video, so we put a poem by Wilfred Owen called Anthem for the Doomed Youth over the footage. This then adds to the video as we were filming in a grave yard, so the contrast between us having fun in the footage and the serious tone of the audio makes the video have an eerie effect. The end result:
Props This aspect of my music video is strongly linked to the costume aspect of my video, as most of the props I am planning on using link to the set costumes for my characters. This also makes props a crucial part of my music video as it will add to the effect of the costumes; as good props will be an extension of these costumes and thus the characters, giving the audience a clearer image when watching my music video. Also, due to the fact that I am trying to use costumes inspired a different time period to modern day, by adding props this will make that difference clearer by adding more definition and the little details will make the over all finish of my video more professional. The props I want to use are going to used quite a lot in my video as well, again making them a pronounced element of my mis-en-scene. Props I am going to need: Police Baton - This will be held by the police officer who is chasing the 'robbers', and he will be waving it up above ...
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? Here is my plan : I planned to cut to pictures of my ancillary tasks within the footage of this video, but unfortunately technology let me down and would not allow the export of this form of the video, so included below are pictures of my ancillary tasks so you can see what I am referring to: Here is the interview me and my friend conducted as answer to this question: Furthermore, I also tested my opinion on my ancillary tasks linking by showing people different people ancillary tasks and videos from my fellow peers, and then making them guess which ancillary task goes with which video, Out of an audience of 20, 20 out of 20 linked my ancillary tasks to my video, demonstrating how I managed to portray continuity within advertising my products.
As I am working by myself, I did not get many images from filming because I was the only person behind the camera and most of my attention was on executing the footage for my music video. However, below are some images from the 2 days I filmed and I have also created a short behind the scenes video to give you an insight into what filming was like. equipment ready to go film On the train to filming location Being caught by a real policeman Being given a Badge at City College to gain access to the music rooms Here is a behind the scenes video:
